Beat Making Software

Because of the rapid growth of the digitally produced music scene, owning reliable beat making software has been a crucial part in creating solid music. Many amateur and professional producers these days are getting tricked into purchasing either low quality software or programs that have insanely steep learning curves. Beat makers combine the features of a loop sampler, sequencer, and beatbox to create an interactive instrument that can be played, edited, and recorded all on a computer. The music that comes out of the software will be completely ready to share or play, and assuming you have the best software out there, the quality will be up to industry standards.

When researching beat making software, though, there are a few things that you must avoid. First, the sound library cannot be built out of MP3 sounds. The problem with MP3s lie in the quality; this sound type is already compressed. You need to deal with studio quality sounds in order to get a studio quality song or beat. You also can't expect good results from software programs that export only the MP3 files. Again, the program will produce a compressed quality sound that cannot be played for serious uses. Finally, your software cannot be online only. The main problem with this is that the software will probably use MP3's, which are smaller files and easier for the hosting website to handle, and that the software can probably be found for free. Remember that any beat maker with these three features is not worth the money.

Some beat making software features that you should consider include .wav file sound libraries and export functions, a short learning curve, multiple screens and panels, and keyboard shortcuts. Notice that all three features point in one direction: efficiency. A good beat maker will cater to the producer's needs while also catering to the producer's ability and familiarity with the software. By the end of the process of learning the software, a producer could theoretically turn the keyboard into a beat machine. Each song would simply be a combination of clicks and utilizing the shortcuts provided by the software. Software that offers the most flexibility will often times be the best in terms of cost and efficiency.

Having the right beat making software is still the first step. Of course, using your beat maker will allow you to create pretty much every style of music you can think of. From house to latin to rap and beyond, beat makers are flexible in that regard. One thing you should consider when composing or arranging your music is the tempo, which is measured out in beats per minute (BPM). The typical rap or hip hop song will be between 80 to 120 BPM. Songs in the trance, eurodance, and techno genres will be in the 120-150 BPM range. House is somewhat limited and should be between 118 and 135 BPM. Creating a song does have some basic parameters that should be followed. But besides the structure of the song, a producer's creativity should be enough to finish a song.
